Profile Paper Essay Example

Academic tutorial on how to write a profile essay

Writing a profile essay is pretty much like writing any essay in that it requires the basic ingredients. It must have solid research, a sound structure, easy to follow writing and be expertly proofread and correctly marked. And as different essays have different qualities or characteristics so too does a profile essay.

It can be pretty much about anything. It can be about an event, a place or venue or a person. It's fair to say that people make a great subject for a profile essay and the beauty of this fact is that it doesn't have to be a famous person. You can write a profile essay about a person who is completely unknown. If it is about a person, then writing such a profile essay is a wonderful opportunity for the student to learn the skill of interviewing.

There are two main skills you can use

Observation and interviewing are the basic skills you apply when researching a profile essay. You will be surprised how many people lack basic observation skills. It is a skill you need to work at. You can teach yourself to become more observant. In writing a profile essay about a person, your ability to observe this person and what they have achieved will go a long way to giving you ideas and information for your essay.

Then there is the skill or some would say the art of interviewing. Your task is to elicit answers which are relevant to your profile essay. Preparation is the key. You need to spend considerable time before conducting the interview gathering up a list of questions. You need to be prepared to add additional questions should the person you are interviewing introduce a topic you had not thought about.

Forget general comments

One of the key ingredients of a profile essay is that your writing will list specific information. The more specific the better. If you use general descriptions, broad sweeping comments, these are less likely to make your essay entertaining and interesting and thus earn a lower score or mark.

One other interesting aspect about profile essays is that they have a strange combination of being both objective and subjective. You are objective in that you provide facts and provable data but you are subjective in that you give an opinion of this information. Your tutor will be able to explain these actions in more detail.

Profile Essay on Demi Lovato

She looks in the mirror, and she hates what she sees. “I’m not small enough.”, she thinks. “I’m not good enough, and I never will be.”, she tells herself. She pokes her stomach; all she feels is fat, but the truth is she’s actually underweight. Her mind has been corrupted by these horrible things she tells herself in repetition. The pressure of society telling her to be perfect is too much. She can’t hold her food down anymore. She purges and spews her lunch into the toilet beside her. Now, she’s ashamed of herself, but that’s just the cycle of bulimia.

There are at least 30 million people of all ages and genders in America that suffer from an eating disorder. Out of those 30 million people, an average of 20% will die if they don’t get treatment. Demi Lovato was one of the 30 million, but luckily she was not among that 20%. She is an overcomer.

As of right now, Demi Lovato is a beautiful, healthy, and confident 24-year-old woman. She has dark chocolate colored eyes that almost perfectly match her short brunette locks. She is currently at a healthy weight of 121 lbs., while she is an average height of 5’3”. Not to mention, she has unmistakably gorgeous curves.

She was born on August 20, 1992 as Demetria Devonne Lovato. However, the world has known her as “Demi Lovato, the singer, songwriter, and actress” since she was extremely young. She grew up in the spotlight of Disney Channel and Hollywood. Yet, on the inside, she is still just a normal person like the rest of us. At the age of two, Lovato suffered through her parents’ divorce. When she was still at a young age, she was bullied in public school so badly that she asked to be homeschooled. She later became a spokesperson for PACER, an anti-bullying organization.

In November of 2010, Lovato weighed roughly 91 lbs. Yet, she still wasn’t comfortable with her own body. In her mind, she was overweight. She was struggling with depression, self-harm and a combination of two eating disorders (anorexia nervosa and bulimia). So, she checked herself into a rehabilitation center. After being in this rehabilitation center, she posted a video where she inspired her fans by saying.

If you are going through that dark period, go to your family and closest friends. Don’t put yourself in danger. It’s very crucial that you get your feelings out- but don’t ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she’s worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything.

The summer after she got out of rehab, she released an album called “Unbroken”. On the album, there was a song called “Skyscraper” which was about how, no matter what happened, she would rise up and overcome, like a skyscraper. Then, in December of 2011, she spoke out against Disney Channel, her former network, for making jokes about eating disorders on their shows. Disney responded to this by immediately removing the episodes in question.

In addition, Lovato became a contributing editor of SEVENTEEN magazine so that she could share her struggles with teenage girls who may be struggling with the same things. In 2012, in support of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, she tweeted, “Instead of trying to change our bodies, how about we try to change our culture?” In 2013, she released a new album called “Really Don’t Care”. It’s about her attitude towards trying to be skinny and perfect. Her newest album “Confident” basically just promotes self-confidence above everything else.

Despite everything she has been through, Demi Lovato has made it out on top. She has overcome every struggle she has faced so far. She has confidence and individuality, which are some things that are lacking in our society today. She is an overcomer. She is a “skyscraper.”
